January 2024 Social Media Holidays

Updated: Mar 11

With 2023 officially at an end, business owners have a unique opportunity to plan for the coming year and make changes to their marketing strategy that will increase profits all year long. One way that companies can increase their profits in 2024 is by posting regularly on social media. Because of the way the algorithm works, it’s really important to have regular feed posts on Facebook and Instagram. That means you can’t skip a week (or even more than a few days) when it comes to content. Posting consistently is one of the easiest ways to improve your social media stats, gain new followers, and convert followers into customers. Whether you’re a B2B or B2C company, you should always be posting regularly on social.

But let’s be honest- it’s easy to run out of ideas for social media content. That’s why marketers love holidays. Official and unofficial holidays are a great way to engage your audience and attract those who might not regularly see your content. Now that’s not to say that you should be making a Happy Memorial Day graphic in Canva and throwing it up without a plan. That kind of holiday posting probably isn’t going to get you the growth you’re looking for and might actually hurt your social media strategy.

That’s why this year we’re going to be posting upcoming holidays on social media each month AND posting a blog post with more detailed ideas on how to use said holidays within your marketing strategy. If you’ve had trouble staying consistent with your posting or thinking of ideas for content in the past, but aren’t quite ready to work with an agency, this article will be a great DIY kickstarter for you!

So, let’s get started...

JANUARY 2024 HOLIDAY CONTENT IDEAS

Mental Wellness Month

Unless you’re a therapy practice, asking your audience really broad and general questions like, “How do you practice self-care?” isn’t going to garner any responses. Instead, try to think of a creative way to incorporate your industry to mental health or self-care. Here are some examples:

  • If your business is a janitorial company, you could compile and post video clips of satisfying cleaning moments. In the caption, you could say something like, “Save this oh-so-satisfying video so that you can watch it all month long to celebrate Mental Wellness Month and scratch that itch in the back of your brain.”

  • If your business is a chiropractic practice, you could invite a yoga instructor in for an in-person event with a 5 minute adjustment and stretching session. Promote on social with graphics and stories that explain how important mental wellness is to the rest of your physical health.

  • If your business is a dog training company, create a challenge for your followers to go on daily 20 minute walks with their pup every single day this month. Focus on the mental health benefits for both humans and their pups by going on daily walks and offer a branded prize for the randomly chosen winner of those who complete the challenge.

National Trivia Day- January 4th, 2024

This is an easy one for any type of business with a little bit of planning. National Trivia Day gives businesses the opportunity to invite responses, which is only going to do great things for your engagement numbers. Regardless of what industry your business is in, these ideas will help boost your engagement on social for National Trivia Day:

  • Create a series of stories with FAQs about your business/industry using the Quiz stickers

  • Create a carousel to post to your feed with statistics about your business in honor of the holiday

  • Go live answering questions about your business/industry

  • Host a trivia night at your office/storefront- do a round specific to your business to see how much your guests really know

National Compliment Day- January 24th, 2024

If you’re generally a little shy about asking for reviews, National Compliment Day is a great opportunity to ask without getting the ick! You can create a graphic or make a short video asking your followers for compliments on Google, Facebook, and Yelp.

You should also take some time to do the same for other businesses that you support. Then screenshot them and add them to your story saying something like, “I did my part on National Compliment Day by leaving reviews for my favorite local businesses! If you’ve worked with us/used our product in the past, we’d love to get your feedback today!” You can add a sticker to the story that links directly to your Google reviews so that they’re easily navigated to the next step.

This is also a great day to share some great reviews you’ve already received about your business!

Full Moon- January 25th, 2024

The full moon is something universal to every single one of your followers, so it’s a great resource to use in bringing people together. The tricky part is thinking of a creative way to use it that makes sense for your business. This phase of the moon’s cycle is most associated with emotions, creativity, and purpose, so it’s not a great day to start a big new project or encourage your followers to do the same. Instead, focus on ways that followers can channel that energy in a way that applies to your company or industry.

Here are a few examples:

  • Instead of posting a generic full moon graphic (or not posting anything at all), a candy company could make a cute post about how followers should treat themselves to a few extra pieces of candy because it’s a full moon.

  • An interior designer could post some dark, spooky decor inspiration to honor the full moon.

  • A hairstylist could post a carousel of some of their edgier cuts and colors encouraging folks to use the full moon to lean into that style they’ve always wanted but never thought they could pull off.

  • A financial advisor could encourage followers to make a list of their manifestations for the year during a full moon when their creativity encourages them to dream bigger.

Fun At Work Day- January 26th, 2024

If you do this one right, it could have some of the highest engagement of any of your content all year. As we know, content with faces performs better than a graphic filled with words. To make this one a hit, you’ll need your whole team to participate.

The goal of this one across the board will be showing how much fun your team has at work. There are a million ways to make this happen, but here are some ideas that will work for any industry:

  • Find a trending Reel or TikTok trend and recreate it! We love this one where you tape your phone to the ceiling and have the whole team dance around and act silly. Then use an app like CapCut, InShot, or Splice to edit it.

  • Prank a team member and record the chaos for social.

  • Make a compilation of all the fun things your team has been up to recently (events, in-office fun, zoom calls, etc.)

  • Go around the office telling team members dad jokes and record their reactions.

  • If you’re a solopreneur, compile some funny clips of you “having fun at work”. You could be holding a crying baby while you’re on the phone, trying to talk to a client on Zoom while the dog is barking incessantly, working super late at night, etc. If you go with something funny like this, just make sure the caption is light and friendly so that followers don’t think you’re complaining about doing your job. That generally rubs people the wrong way.
